Fight Hunger in the U.S.
Due to legal reasons we can’t mention the name of the organization we contribute to. However we can tell you that it’s “the big one”; and the one you’re probably thinking of.
If you search the internet you'll find estimates that 30 to 38 MILLION U.S. citizens go to bed hungry every night. That includes 12 to 14 million children. Try a search on food waste and you'll find that that we waste enough to feed those people easily. That’s right- the average American wastes about 300 pounds of food a year or over 21 million tons a year as a nation. This is not an issue of the pleasures of food for these people; it’s a matter of health, strength and proper growth for their children. Think about that the next time you find yourself watching a pie-eating contest.
Slow Food USA FOOD & LIFE: Nationally- Slow Food USA. Slow Food is an international organization committed to the preservation of diversity in food and culture. You may not realize it but many of the foods we enjoy are in peril Please investigate the importance of “heirloom” and “heritage” stains of animals, fruits and vegetables and how important genetic diversity is to the preservation of our food sources. We all know the pleasure of great food with great people; whether it’s a backyard BBQ a home-cooked meal with the family or a luxurious dinner on the town there is no replacement for what food brings to our lives. The White Dog Café Foundation LOCAL FARMING: The White Dog Café Foundation. Local- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Why does We3Chefs.com think local farming makes sense? #1 Energy- on average it takes about 240 gallons of gas to deliver one truckload of California produce to the east coast; enough to fuel an average compact car for half a year. #2 Flavor- Local products are absolutely fresh and nothing tastes better than fresh. Just ask any Jersey tomato lover!
#3 Nutrition- fruits and vegetables in particular that are allowed to ripen fully before they’re harvested contain higher levels of nutrients. #4 Waste- is virtually eliminated. #5- You know where it comes from! Local farming encourages community values.
The Organic Consumers Association ORGANICS: Nationally- The Organic Consumers Association. We think that organics make a lot of sense. The human body is a very sensitive machine with all those synapses and metabolic stuff. It’s been shown too many times that chemicals ingested into our bodies are harmful, and we think it’s a good idea to avoid them if possible, especially in children. There is a lot of confusion about “organic” in the U.S.; most of which is politically generated. We suggest eating organic whenever you can and “Local” organic is best option in our opinion. The OCA is hard at work sorting out the politics, and could use the support.
The Culinary Institute of America EDUCATION: The Culinary Institute of America. Food awareness starts with education. We donate to the Culinary Institute of America Alumni Scholarship Fund to provide the opportunity for young people to get a high quality culinary education who might not otherwise have the chance. We3Chefs.com is also involved with many College, Vo-Tech and public school systems who use The Original Food Lover’s Trivia™ game as an educational tool.
Rebuild New Orleans
PRESERVATION OF AMERICAN CULINARY CULTURE: Reconstruction of New Orleans. We3Chefs.com is presently accepting donations but we are diligently looking for the best organization to support. There are so many fine groups who are involved, we just want to be sure our contributions are applied in the most beneficial way.
The Big Easy has fallen on Hard Times. New Orleans is the heart and most of- if not all of the soul of American culinary heritage. The experience shared by the millions who have dined, drank and danced in the streets of NOLA can’t be lost forever. It’s the people who made New Orleans what it was, and it’s the people that will make it what it will become. We want to do all we can to bring that culinary rhythm back to life for all of us to enjoy.
